The region of Lefkara in Cyprus is renowned for its delicate lace making and silversmithing. The production of silver jewellery was a fascinating process to watch. Made from the ‘lost wax’ method, the silver is moulded into shape and multiple pieces can be done this way at the same time. They look like a tree of jumbled grey items. Each one is removed from the silver core and painstakingly polished.
The whole process is done by hand with the help of a furnace to melt the silver! This is a traditional way of handcrafting each piece and it is a trade that people spend their whole lives mastering.
